New Delhi: Hollywood actress Lori Loughlin and fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli have separated after nearly 28 years of marriage, marking the end of one of television’s most talked-about celebrity unions.
Elizabeth Much, Loughlin’s representative, confirmed the split on October 2, stating: “They are living apart and taking a break from their marriage. There are no legal proceedings at this time”. The couple, who married in 1997, share two daughters—Olivia Jade Giannulli, 26, and Isabella Rose Giannulli, 27.
College Admissions Scandal Strained Relationship

The separation comes more than five years after Loughlin and Giannulli became embroiled in the notorious Varsity Blues college admissions scandal in 2019.
The couple pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud charges after admitting they paid $500,000 to mastermind William “Rick” Singer to fraudulently secure their daughters’ admission to the University of Southern California as crew team recruits, despite neither daughter having participated in the sport.
Loughlin, best known for her role as Aunt Becky on the beloved sitcom “Full House,” served a two-month prison sentence and was released in December 2020. She also paid a $150,000 fine and completed 100 hours of community service.
Giannulli received a harsher sentence of five months in prison, along with 250 hours of community service and a $250,000 fine, completing his term in April 2021.
Sources close to the couple suggest the scandal significantly strained their marriage over the years. In February 2025, they quietly listed their sprawling 11,800-square-foot Hidden Hills mansion for $16.5 million, sparking speculation about marital troubles. The property was purchased for $9.5 million in 2020.
Moving Forward Separately
Just one day before the separation announcement, Loughlin, was spotted dining with longtime friend and former co-star James Tupper at The Bird Streets Club in West Hollywood. While speculation arose about a romantic connection, sources confirmed they are simply long-time friends.
Since her release from prison, Loughlin has gradually returned to acting. She reprised her role in Hallmark’s “When Hope Calls” spinoff in 2021 and appeared in Great American Family holiday movies “Fall into Winter” and “A Christmas Blessing” in 2023.
Last year, she made a guest appearance on the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” where she humorously played a fictionalized version of herself and referenced the scandal.
In a rare interview with First For Women magazine in April 2024, Loughlin spoke about forgiveness and perseverance, seemingly alluding to the scandal: “We all make mistakes, but the important thing is to persevere”. She emphasized the importance of family during difficult times, stating, “It’s always my family and my children”.
Giannulli, 62, founded the fashion brand Mossimo in 1986, which was later sold to Iconix Brand Group in 2006 for $135 million before being licensed to Target stores. The couple’s combined net worth remains substantial despite their legal troubles.
While no divorce papers have been filed, the couple’s decision to live separately suggests they are taking time to evaluate their future together after weathering one of Hollywood’s most publicized scandals.
