Hazyview SAPS Clerk Sentenced for Illegal Loan Scheme
A police clerk, Bernard Ndlovu, working for the Hazyview SAPS in Mpumalanga, has been sentenced to a year in prison, or a R30,000 fine, for operating an unregistered cash loan business. The sentence was handed down this week.
Sentence Details
The White River Magistrate’s Court suspended the sentence entirely for five years. The condition of the suspended sentence is that Ndlovu, 53, must not be found guilty of a similar offense during that five-year period. He was sentenced for contravening the National Credit Act.
Arrest and Investigation
Ndlovu was arrested at his workplace on July 21, 2023. He was found in possession of 140 different bank and Sassa cards during the arrest. The investigation revealed the nature of the illegal loan scheme he was running.
Hawks Statement
According to Hawks spokesperson Lt-Col Magonseni Nkosi, the investigation showed that Ndlovu took his clients’ cards as security when they borrowed money. This was to ensure the repayment of the loan.
"He was arrested for contravening the National Credit Act," Nkosi said.
