Edmonton Autism Community Concerned Over Tylenol-Autism Misinformation Following Trump Remarks
The autism community in Edmonton is expressing concern over misinformation linking prenatal Tylenol use to autism, particularly after remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Advocates fear that such claims will further stigmatize neurodivergence and negatively impact families.
Autism Edmonton's Response
Morine Rossi, program manager at Autism Edmonton, emphasized the existing stigma surrounding neurodivergence. She stated that amplifying misinformation adds to the burden on parents who may already feel guilt or confusion. “We just want to put the most information research out there,” Rossi said.
Focus on Evidence-Based Information
Autism Edmonton urges Canadians and autistic individuals to prioritize evidence-based information over misinformation. Rossi stated, “We really hope that Canadians and autistic individuals in Canada put our information to a higher regard than misinformation that may be coming from elsewhere.”
Prioritizing Key Issues for the Autism Community
Rossi also highlighted that the focus should remain on the pressing needs of individuals living with autism. "Which is housing, security, employment security, financial security and food security. We try to focus on the things that matter to autistic individuals and a cure is not on the top of our list.”
Looking Ahead
Autism Edmonton continues to advocate for accurate information and support for the autism community, prioritizing quality of life and addressing critical needs rather than focusing on unsubstantiated claims and misleading information.
