Erdogan Praises Trump's Efforts to End Gaza War
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has commended US President Donald Trump's "efforts and leadership" in attempting to halt the bloodshed in Gaza and achieve a ceasefire. This endorsement comes after Trump secured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's support for a US-sponsored peace proposal.
The US-Sponsored Peace Proposal
Following discussions between Trump and Netanyahu in Washington, the White House unveiled a comprehensive 20-point plan. This plan outlines key steps towards peace, including an immediate ceasefire, an exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a transitional government under international supervision.
Turkey's Stance and Continued Involvement
Erdogan, who recently met with Trump at the White House, stated that Turkey will continue to contribute to the peace process. His aim is "establishing a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties." This statement was made on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Turkey has consistently been a vocal critic of Israel's operations in Gaza, describing them as a "genocide." The country has taken concrete actions, including halting all trade with Israel, urging international action against Netanyahu and his government, and repeatedly advocating for a two-state solution.
Diplomatic Efforts
According to a Turkish Foreign Ministry source, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has engaged in discussions regarding Trump's proposal with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Jordan via telephone.
