From Survivor to Hope Ambassador: Young Man Inspires Children with Cancer
A young man diagnosed with leukemia during his secondary school years has recovered from the disease with the support of his family and friends. Now, he serves as an ambassador for the Children's Cancer Foundation, spreading hope to children battling cancer.
Overcoming Leukemia: Zhu Jialei's Story
Zhu Jialei, 30, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2011. Initially, he attributed his fatigue to the stress of preparing for his O-Levels. The diagnosis was a shock.
"I was shocked. No one expects it to be cancer, especially since I was so young. I thought only older people got cancer. In that instant, exams were no longer the most important thing in life," Zhu Jialei said.
After a year of chemotherapy with his parents' unwavering support and continuous active treatment, Zhu Jialei triumphed over cancer. He now uses his experience to help others, becoming an advocate for childhood cancer awareness and support.
A Beacon of Hope: Spreading a Message of Resilience
From a cancer patient to a beneficiary and volunteer of the foundation, to a "Hair for Hope" ambassador and now an ambassador for the "Train of Hope" charity walk, Zhu Jialei is dedicated to giving hope to children fighting cancer.
He wants to tell other sick children: "Life has its ups and downs. The important thing is to cherish every small victory, focus on the positive side, and don't put too much pressure on yourself. Most importantly, you are not alone. You have many family and friends who love you and are always supporting you!"
"Train of Hope" Charity Walk: Supporting Children with Cancer
The "Train of Hope" charity walk attracted approximately 400 participants, including about 100 cancer survivors and their families. The event, held at Gardens by the Bay on Sunday, October 5th, also continues online as a virtual walk until December 31st of this year.
The event has raised nearly 700,000 Singapore dollars, which will be used for various projects of the Children's Cancer Foundation to provide assistance and services to children. Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information & Health, Dr. Janil Puthucheary, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Law & Social and Family Development, Ms. Sun Xueling, also attended the event.
The Importance of Holistic Recovery
Ms. Koh Shu Kai, Vice President of the Foundation, said, "Recovery is not just about overcoming the disease. True recovery is about living healthily and happily, rebuilding physical strength, regaining confidence, and nourishing the power of the soul."
Therefore, the foundation organized this charity walk to call on people to pay attention to the physical and mental health of cancer survivors and to convey strength, courage, and hope through the walk.
