Background and Experience

Dr. Syed Harun Alhabsyi, a 40-year-old psychiatrist, previously served as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) from 2023 to 2025. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2025 General Election. Due to his professional commitments, his official assumption of duties was delayed by several months. He is one of nine new political office holders in Prime Minister Lee's team.

New Political Appointments

The new political team includes seven new Members of Parliament, including Dr. Syed Harun, and two backbenchers who have been promoted. Among those is Mr. Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, a two-term MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC. Mr. Zhulkarnain will be appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social and Family Development in February next year.
