Marine Tondelier's Brigitte Macron Joke Sparks Outrage Amid French Political Shake-Up

Marine Tondelier's Joke About Brigitte Macron Sparks Controversy

Marine Tondelier, the head of the Greens party in France, has faced criticism after making a joke about Brigitte Macron, the wife of President Emmanuel Macron. The comment was made following the appointment of Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister after François Bayrou's government was ousted.

Tondelier's Comment and Public Reaction

During appearances on BFMTV and Public Sénat, Tondelier quipped that if a fourth Prime Minister were to be appointed since the dissolution, the President might choose Brigitte Macron. This remark drew negative reactions online, with many users expressing disapproval. Some comments on X (formerly Twitter) called the joke "feminist," urged respect for the President's wife, and criticized Tondelier's tolerance.

"S’il y a un quatrième Premier ministre à nommer depuis la dissolution, je ne sais pas qui il pourra choisir de plus proche, peut-être Brigitte Macron, je n’en sais rien !"

Tondelier Responds to François Bayrou's Criticism

The controversy follows earlier exchanges between Tondelier and François Bayrou. Bayrou had stated that he hadn't consulted colleagues during the summer regarding budget negotiations because they were on vacation. Tondelier refuted this, stating that the Greens' political activities had already resumed. She promoted her new book, "Demain, si tout va bien," and indirectly rebuked Bayrou on X, implying she was busy despite his vacation claim.

Macrons Sell Villa, Make Significant Profit

In other news, the Macron couple has sold their villa in Le Touquet for 3.6 million euros, as reported by Le Canard Enchaîné. The property, known as Villa Monéjan, had been estimated at 1.2 million euros during Emmanuel Macron's 2017 presidential campaign. Despite a later re-evaluation by the tax authorities to 1.45 million euros, the sale represents a substantial profit.

Details of the Villa Sale

The villa was purchased by Oxial, a company based in Arras, owned by Patrick Pawletta, according to La Voix du Nord. Pawletta intends to develop a high-end commercial project on the site, attracting luxury brands currently absent from the seaside resort. The Macrons have reportedly acquired a new property worth 1.85 million euros with sea views in the area.
