Aurora alert: northern lights visible Sunday evening in parts of U.S.
In a celestial surprise, the northern lights are putting on a show across portions of the northern U.S. Sunday evening.
A stream of solar wind is colliding with Earth's magnetosphere Sunday night, and the ingredients are right for the aurora to be visible in Southern New England.
The northern lights were reported as far south as Maine and Connecticut around 9 p.m. Sunday.
Aurora may be visible Sunday night in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts away from city lights.
