Honor Flight Connecticut Sends 65 Veterans to D.C. to Visit War Memorials

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — 65 Veterans, including WTNH’s Gil Simmons, gathered for a send-off at Bradley Airport Saturday morning for ‘Honor Flight Connecticut’, shedding light on those who serve.

Veterans, their families and volunteers flew down to Washington D.C. to visit memorials and recognize the ultimate sacrifices made for our country.

“I don’t know what to think. I feel honored but there’s so many of us that did the same thing I did and you never hear of them probably,” World War II Veteran Patsy Lombardo said. “I feel honored I really do.”

Lombardo was not the only World War II veteran to participate in this honorary event, another served in Korea and Vietnam as well.

“To go to the wall with the Vietnam veterans to spend time at World War II and Korean memorials with those veterans, it’s life changing and it started as a passion, and its now an obsession,” Honor Flight Connecticut President Dan Sparks said. “We love what we do and we love honoring veterans.”

Members of the United States Air Force, Coast Guard, Army and Navy were honored at the event.
