10-Year-Old Girl Dies in South Carolina Pedestrian Crash, Investigation Underway

The recent death of a 10-year-old South Carolina girl is under investigation, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

Wagener resident Tara Gram is the pedestrian who died at a Columbia hospital following a Friday afternoon crash, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

The collision happened at about 4:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of New Holland Road, according to the release. That’s in the Wagener area of Aiken County.

Tara was walking across the road when she was hit by a Ford Expedition, the coroner’s office said. She was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital where she was pronounced dead from the injuries suffered in the crash at 5:51 p.m., according to the release.

Information about the SUV driver was not available, and no other injuries were reported.

Both the coroner’s office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the child’s death. An autopsy has been scheduled to be performed this week in Newberry, according to the coroner’s office.

Through Sept. 21, at least 637 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 12 people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 28 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
