LSU Secures Commitment From Four-Star Quarterback Peyton Houston for 2027 Class

LSU Lands Coveted 2027 QB Commitment from Peyton Houston

LSU has secured its first commitment for the 2027 recruiting class, landing four-star quarterback Peyton Houston from Cotton Valley (La.) Evangel Christian on Monday. This is a significant win for the Tigers, solidifying their quarterback pipeline.

A Prized In-State Recruit Chooses LSU

Houston, a highly sought-after in-state prospect, chose LSU over powerhouse programs like Oklahoma and USC, along with numerous other offers. According to Rivals Industry rankings, he is the No. 8 quarterback and No. 94 overall prospect in the 2027 class. The 5-foot-10, 202-pound quarterback was primarily recruited by offensive coordinator Joe Sloan.

Impressive Stats and Early LSU Interest

Even early in his junior season, Houston is already showing impressive stats. In two games, he's completed 68% of his passes for 664 yards and five touchdowns, while also adding two rushing touchdowns. His sophomore season was even more remarkable, racking up 5,170 total yards and 45 touchdowns. He also holds an NFHS record of 817 passing yards in a single game and threw for 4,480 yards on the season, earning First Team All-District, First Team All-Prep, and First Team LSWA All-State honors. Notably, Houston is also a 4.0 student.

Recruiting Process and Visit Impressions

LSU recognized Peyton Houston's talent early, offering him a scholarship a year ago and intensifying their recruitment efforts this year. A visit to Baton Rouge in February significantly influenced his decision, providing insight into life as a Tigers quarterback.

"My visit was amazing and it was an all-day event," Houston said. "I got to tour every part of the campus with Coach (Trey) Holtz and Coach PK (Patrick Kelly). I also had the chance to talk with all the people I would interact with on a daily basis."

Houston continued, describing his immersive experience: "After the first meeting, we had lunch at Chimes, which was outstanding. Once we got back, I used the VR to see how it helps with reads and processing the game. I then spoke with Doctor (DF) Arnold about how they develop players off the field. I also talked to Coach (Brian) Kelly about how the day went. To end the day, I met with Coach (Joe) Sloan and saw how I would fit into the offense, how he teaches his quarterbacks, and his standards for quarterbacks both on and off the field."

Other Notable Offers

Beyond LSU, Houston received offers from several other prominent programs, including Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. His commitment represents a major recruiting victory for Brian Kelly and his staff. This pledge from a quarterback further strengthens their 2027 recruiting class.
