Parker Volunteer Joins Life-Saving Mission to Malawi
Wayne Schultz of Parker, Colorado, is preparing for his annual trip to sub-Saharan Africa to volunteer with Marion Medical Mission. For over a decade, he has been dedicated to assisting impoverished villages, focusing on providing access to clean water and improving lives.
The Call to Serve in Malawi
Driven by a desire to address the critical needs he witnessed firsthand, Schultz has been traveling to Africa since 2013. His commitment stems from a deep understanding of the challenges faced by villagers who lack access to basic necessities. Marion Medical Mission focuses on installing sustainable water wells in remote areas of Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique.
“Everybody tells you about the need and until you’re there, until you see it, so you just don’t have that appreciation,” Schultz told FOX31, emphasizing the profound impact of witnessing the struggles of impoverished communities.
Marion Medical Mission: Bringing Clean Water to East Africa
Marion Medical Mission is dedicated to providing clean and safe water to communities in east Africa. They aim to complete the installation of over 4,000 water wells this year alone. Over the past few decades, the organization has installed nearly 60,000 wells, significantly improving the lives of countless individuals.

A Wife's Legacy of Compassion
Schultz's involvement began with his wife, who read an article about Marion Medical Mission volunteers from Colorado working in Africa. Although she was unable to travel due to illness, she encouraged Schultz to get involved. Following her passing in 2017, Schultz continues her legacy by volunteering and showing compassion to those in need.
“She said, I can’t go, but you’re going,” Schultz recalled, highlighting the motivating factor behind his continuous volunteer work.
