Trump Claims Nobel Prize Snub Would Be "Big Insult" to the US, Highlights Gaza Peace Proposal
US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, despite his efforts to broker peace deals, would be a "big insult" to the United States. He made these remarks at a military gathering in Quantico, Virginia, organized by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, while discussing his Gaza peace proposal.
Trump's Gaza Peace Plan and Nobel Prize Comments
Speaking to military officials, Trump stated that his Gaza peace proposal, if successful, would resolve eight wars in eight months. He reiterated that he would not receive a Nobel Peace Prize even if his plan succeeds, predicting it would go to "someone who didn't do a damn thing." According to Trump, the Nobel committee might award the prize to "a guy that wrote a book about the 'Mind of Donald Trump'," which he believes would insult the country. He emphasized that he wanted the country, not himself, to receive the recognition.
"Will you get the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not. They'll give it to some guy who didn't do a damn thing. They'll give it to a guy that wrote a book about the 'Mind of Donald Trump'... It will be a big insult to our country... I don't want it. I want the country to get it," - President Trump
His comments followed the release of a 20-point peace plan for Gaza that includes an immediate ceasefire, exchange of hostages for prisoners, staged Israeli withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, and a transitional international government. Israel has reportedly backed the proposal, while Hamas has yet to formally respond.
Reiterated Claim of Brokering India-Pakistan Ceasefire
During the same gathering, Trump reiterated his previous claim of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He asserted that he intervened after clashes escalated following the Pahalgam terror attacks and Operation Sindoor. Trump claimed to have threatened trade restrictions to halt the conflict. However, India has consistently denied Trump's version of events, stating that the ceasefire was reached through direct talks between military officials from both countries.
"India and Pakistan were going at it. I called them both... They had just shot down seven planes... I said, if you do this, there's not going to be any trade, and I stopped the war. It was raging for four days..." - President Trump
Analysis of Trump's Claims and Nobel Prize Prospects
While Trump has claimed credit for solving multiple international conflicts, these claims are often disputed. Regarding the Nobel Peace Prize, experts believe his chances of winning this year are slim. The Norwegian Nobel Committee traditionally disregards lobbying efforts, making it unlikely Trump's repeated claims will influence their decision.
