A Saskatchewan man who was the subject of a nation-wide warrant and a United Kingdom extradition order has been returned to Canada with the assistance of INTERPOL to face outstanding sex crime charges.
Earl Warren, 69, is formerly from the Saskatoon area.
Warren was originally arrested in October 2020 in relation to historical sexual offences after a Saskatoon RCMP investigated a report received a year prior. He is charged with three counts of sexual assault and four counts of invitation to sexual touching of a minor.
The incidents leading to the charges reportedly occurred between 2010 and 2017 in Saskatchewan.
Warren failed to appear in Saskatoon Court of King's Bench in May 2023. Investigators found he had fled to London, U.K., and started the process of requesting his extradition, according to an RCMP news release.
Warren tried to appeal his extradition but was denied. He arrived in Canada with RCMP officers on Sept. 17 and was remanded until his next scheduled appearance on Oct. 24.
"This is an example of an individual attempting to evade the Canadian judicial process," S/Sgt. Michelle Bonstrom, RCMP's Saskatoon detachment commander, said in the release.
"We're thankful that, through our work with international partners, we were successful in bringing him back to Canada to face his charges."
